Psychotherapy is a term used to describe the treatment for issues that have negatively affected an individual’s mental health and quality of life. It is also referred to as “talk therapy,” therapy, or counseling.
The process relies on communication between the individual and the therapist. The goal of treatment is to foster insight for the individual/s in order to rediscover their voice, clarify priorities and gain the courage and skills to change attitudes and behaviors.
The therapist bases their practice on knowledge of therapeutic principles, interventions and techniques. The therapist engages in a professional relationship with the client that is intentional, honest and respectful.
